Code Case 2901 Code Case 2901 is now available as an alternative method for evaluating external loads on ASME B16.5/16.47 welding neck flanges. This option may be activated on the ASME Codes dialog. The intent of the Code Case 2901 method is to remove the overly conservative results present in the Equivalent Pressure and Equivalent Force methods, while still providing a conservative result (see PVP2013-97814). Note that external loads on bolted flanges joints must be considered to be in compliance with the ASME Code (see ASME Interpretation VIII-1-16-85).
Code Case 2901 increases the pressure rating from ASME B16.5/B16.47 by a moment factor, Fm, before subtracting the pressure reduction from external loads. The result may not be higher than the pressure rating from ASME B16.5/B16.47. The moment factor is selected from Code Case 2901 and is based on flange size and class.
A reduced user defined moment factor can be set in the ASME B16.5/16.47 Flange dialog by activating the User Defined Moment Correction Factor option switch. Per Code Case 2901, this is recommended 'if the loading is primarily sustained in nature and the bolted flange joint operates at a temperature where gasket creep/relaxation will be significant (typically above 450°F (232°C) metal temperature).'
[64254]
Flange class auto-increase to meet design condition A new option is now available that automatically increases the ASME B16.5/B16.47 flange class to meet the design condition. This feature selects an appropriate flange class upon initial creation and updates existing flanges that do not meet the design condition. The flange class auto-increase option is active by default for Builds 7810 and onward. Files created prior to Build 7810 will open with the option deactivated. The option can be enabled\disabled in Set Mode Options -> Defaults -> Flanges. [64742]

Gaskets
ASME B16.20 and B16.21 standard dimensions and other gasket improvements Gasket improvements include standard dimension look-ups per ASME B16.20 and B16.21, gasket dialog enhancements, and the addition of over 5000 gaskets from Flexitallic, Garlock, Lamons, and Teadit.
(1) Standard gasket dimension look-ups for ASME B16.5/B16.47 flanges are now performed for gasket types included in ASME B16.20 Metallic Gaskets for Pipe Flanges and ASME B16.21 Nonmetallic Flat Gaskets for Pipe Flanges. Accurate gasket dimensions are necessary in order to determine the gasket reaction diameter when external loads are considered in determining the flange pressure rating.
Gasket diameters are automatically loaded and set to read-only when a spiral wound, jacketed, kammprofile, or flat nonmetallic gasket is selected.
A default gasket thickness is automatically populated but may be changed.
The User Defined Gasket Dimensions option may be used to override the ASME B16.20 and B16.21 dimensions. Changing the dimensions typically indicates an off-the-shelf gasket will not be ordered.
(2) The gasket selection is now chosen from an enhanced gasket dialog using the Select Gasket option button for standard ASME B16.5/B16.47 flanges, custom flanges, and the default specified on the Flanges page in Set Mode.
Over 5000 gaskets are now available from Flexitallic, Garlock, Lamons, and Teadit. User defined gaskets from other manufacturers may still be added.
The ASME Table 2-5.1 generic gasket descriptions are provided under the Manufacturer drop-down. These may be used for when a specific manufacturer is not desired.
Manufacturer, Type, Style, Material, and Filler/Facing Material filters allow specific gaskets to be easily located.
The Clear All Filters button quickly reverts back to display the entire gasket list.
The Clear Selection and Close button clears the gasket description from flange dialogs, indicating that no gasket is selected.
The Factor m and Factor y inputs are automatically populated based on the gasket selection but may be changed if required based on additional manufacturer gasket information. Changing the m&y values no longer clears the gasket description.
(3) The ASME B16.5/B16.47 Flange Gasket option is now available in the Global Change dialog. This option provides the ability to change the gasket description, gasket factor m, or gasket factor y for several ASME B16.5/16.47 flanges at once. [64716]

Nozzles
Option to size nozzle welds based on the nominal head thickness The required weld thickness for nozzles located on formed heads may now be sized based on the nominal head thickness or the minimum head thickness after forming. This option can be enabled\disabled in Set Mode Options -> Calculations -> Nozzles. By default, nozzle weld requirements are sized based off the nominal formed head thickness. Previously, the weld requirements were always sized based on the minimum head thickness. [54545]
Nominal size when flange class is changed The Nominal Size input in the Select ASME B16.5/16.47 Flange dialog no longer changes to NPS ½ when a flange class is selected that is not available at the selected nominal size. The dialog now issues a warning before reverting the flange class to the previous selection. [64944]

Flanges
Global change of ASME B16.5/16.47 flange materials Using global change to change the nominal size of ASME B16.5/16.47 flanges now sets the flange material to the material scheme setting if the flange is going from B16.5 to B16.47 (or vice versa) and is constructed of a material that is not compatible with B16.47 (or B16.5 in the alternate scenario). Additionally, if a global material change is performed on a combination of B16.5 and B16.47 flanges, and the selected new material is not compatible with B16.47, the B16.47 flanges will remain unchanged; similarly, if the new material is not compatible with B16.5 flanges, the B16.5 flanges will remain unchanged.
