  • WRC 538

    • Flange limit determination for ASME PCC-1 Appendix O
The flange limit, Sfmax, can now be determined using ASME code equations as outlined in WRC Bulletin 538, section 4.

The Use WRC 538 to determine Sfmax option switch is available in the ASME PCC-1 Appendix O Variables dialog under Joint Component -> Bolt Stress Values.

This method is available when ASME PCC-1 Appendix O is available, except for the following flange cases:
      • Standard flanges
      • Dished covers and dished cover mating flanges
      • Slip on loose type flanges
      • Lap joint loose type flanges with hub
      • Split loose type flanges with hub

Flange reports now include the calculation of the hub stress factors per WRC 538, section 4, flange stress calculations per ASME code equations using the moment at the assembly bolt stress flange limit, and a summary table indicating which flange stress limit is met. The Sfmax determined by this method is used in step 4 and step 8 of the ASME PCC-1 Appendix O Joint Component Approach.

A modified temperature yield of the flange material is used to find the flange stress limit in cases when the yield strength of the flange may reduce significantly during operation. In those cases, Sfmax is no longer reduced by the ratio of the yield stresses in the joint component approach. [66907]

  • Appendix 2 Flanges

    • Summary table over-stress flag
The Stress Summary, Bolt Summary, and Rigidity Summary in the custom flange component report now warn or flag over-stress, insufficient area, and excessive flange rigidity index conditions by highlighting the cell yellow or red respectively. Previously, these issues were only indicated in the Deficiencies Summary. [72048]

  • Custom Flanges

    • Details dialog in rating mode
Custom flanges now provide the bolt area, bolt load, rigidity index, and max pressure values in the details dialog when designing in rating mode. [53032]

    • Option to use larger inside diameter in longitudinal stress equation
The option switch When B < 20*g1, substitute B1 for B for longitudinal stress SH is now available in the custom flange dialog for the following flange types:
      • ring type integral

  • Seismic

    • ASCE 7-16 Section 11.4.8 Exception 2 Alternate Cs Determination
ASCE 7-16 and IBC 2018 Ground Supported seismic codes for structures located on Site Class D sites and with S1 greater than or equal to 0.2 (20 percent g) require a site-specific ground motion hazard analysis (GMHA) according to Section 11.4.8. An exception to this requirement is possible by using a modified procedure for determining the seismic response coefficient Cs.
COMPRESS now includes consideration of this exception: when Site Class D is specified and S1 ≥ 0.2, a new option "A ground motion hazard analysis was performed" is now available in the Seismic Codes dialog. If the option is activated, the Cs determination is unaffected; if the option is not activated, indicating a ground motion hazard analysis for the site was not performed, the rules of Section 11.4.8 Exception 2 will be enforced, and a factor of 1.5 may be applied to the determination of Cs for certain periods.
Note that the previous assumption within COMPRESS seismic calculations for Site Class D and S1 ≤ 0.2 was that a GMHA was both required and performed. Calculations for structures without a GMHA performed were potentially unconservative as the 1.5 factor on Cs was not considered. [71947]

    • Site Coefficients Fa and Fv Look-up Override
Options to override automatic look-up of the short-period site coefficient Fa and the long-period site coefficient Fv are now available in the Seismic Codes dialog for ASCE and IBC seismic codes. Activating the option(s) and entering the desired value(s) allows application of ASCE 7-16 and IBC 2018 requirements such as Fa >= 1.2 for default Site Class D from ASCE Section 11.4.4 (IBC 1613.2.3), and Fa = Fv = 1.0 (unity) for Site Class B sites with no site-specific velocity measurements from ASCE Section 11.4.3 (IBC 1613.2.2). [63611]

  • Toolbars

    • Keyboard shortcut for B16.11 Couplings
Couplings may now be placed in Division 1, Division 2, and API 653 Tank Document types using the keyboard shortcut Shift+F2. [71877]

  • Vessel Wizard

    • Warnings and errors grouped into one dialog upon creation
Warnings and errors encountered after creating a vessel through the Vessel Wizard dialog are now grouped together and reported in one dialog. Previously, each warning and error had to be cleared individually, making per-component warnings and errors difficult to get past. [63241]
