Hightlighted Features


  • Component Tree Pane

    • Calculation results now available in the Component Tree
      Calculation results for cylinders, transitions, torispherical heads, ellipsoidal heads, hemi heads, and Appendix 2/Part 4.16 flanges are now displayed in the respective component's Properties pane at the bottom of the Component Tree.
      A new option switch labeled Auto-Recalculate Component Results is now included in the toolbar found at the top of the Component Tree pane. When active (the default setting), this switch causes the component results to be recalculated each time a new component is selected in the tree. Deactivating this switch will disable automatic recalculation (this may speed up navigation of the Component Tree for complex or large files). Once deactivated, a button labeled Recalculate will appear in the component's Properties pane which triggers a recalculation of results each time it is clicked. [75781]

  • Fatigue Assessment

    • Include flange bolts in fatigue screening option
      An option switch to Include Bolts in Fatigue Screening is now available in the Fatigue Screening dialog. [75482]

  • General

    • COMPRESS is now a 64-bit native application
      The 64-bit native application can handle larger vessel and exchanger designs due to the increased memory support above the 4 GB limit available for 32-bit applications. [62332]

  • Nozzles

    • Placement on sump heads
      Nozzles can now be added to sump heads attached to nozzle attachments such as pipes, B16.9 elbows, B16.9 reducers, or B16.9 nozzle tees. Previously, a nozzle could only be attached to a sump head if the sump head was directly attached to the original nozzle. [63840]

    • UG-39(e)(2) multiple openings in flat heads and covers
      The required thickness of flat heads and covers having multiple openings is now multiplied by the factor h when the spacing between any pair of openings is less than twice, but equal to or greater than 1.25 times the average diameter of the pair.

      The UG-39(e) Summary Table in flat head and cover reports provides the following information for each pair of openings, in the new and corroded conditions:

      • Average diameter of the openings, dave
      • 1.25 times dave
      • 2 times dave
      • center-to-center spacing, p
      • ligament efficiency, e
      • factor h

      The governing h is calculated from the smallest e, unless e is greater than or equal to 0.5 for each pair of openings. [7555]

  • Quick Design

    • Rings are now available
      Rings can now be placed via Quick Design using three different methods: Auto-spacing, Mirrored Ring Placement, and Set Ring Spacing. Auto-spacing optimally places rings along the vessel such that the required thickness due to external pressure no longer governs. At this time, auto-spacing is only allowed for vessels with cylinders and heads as the only root components. For Mirrored Ring Placement and Set Ring Spacing, use the mouse scroll wheel to change the number of rings to be placed. [75410]

  • Saddles

    • Wear plate MDMT and material specification
      MDMT calculations are now performed on saddle wear plates. The coincident ratio, per UCS-66(b) for Part UCS materials or 3.11.2.5(a) Step 4 for Table 3-A.1 materials, is that of the shell to which the wear plate is attached. The saddle wear plate material can now be specified for Division 1 in the Saddle dialog. [1716]

  • Wind and Seismic

    • NBC Canada 2020 Wind and Seismic now available
      Wind and seismic calculations according to the National Building Code of Canada 2020 are now available.

      Notable changes in the seismic calculations:
      1. There is a new calculated parameter: Seismic Category. Horizontal vessels and vessels calculated as equipment which fall in Seismic Category SC1 or SC2 may be exempted from seismic requirements if they are not in the post-disaster importance category (Ie < 1.5) and the Seismic Codes dialog's option switch "Consider 4.1.8.18.(2) exemption from seismic design requirements" is active.
      2. There is a revised calculation method for design spectral acceleration, S(T).
      3. The Seismic Codes dialog now includes new inputs for Sa(T, Xs), where Xs is the site designation, and Sa(T, X450); see sentence 4.1.8.1.(2).(c).
      4. The Seismic Codes dialog now includes a new button which opens the NBC Hazard Tool website and automatically looks up seismic location data for the location specified in the dialog.

      Notable changes in the wind calculations:
      1. Updated location database table for wind pressure values, including one new location.
      2. The "Very Dynamically Sensitive" deficiency warning is no longer issued when the ratio of vessel height to effective width is greater than 6 due to the new clause regarding human occupancy found in sentence 4.1.7.2.(3).(b).

  • ASME/ANSI Flanges

    • UNS S32205 available
      ASTM A182 F60 and A240 materials are now available for ASME B16.5/16.47 flanges and blind flanges. [71593]

  • Component Commentary

    • Commentary applied indicator
      A blue indicator now appears in the Commentary button of a component's dialog when a comment has been written. [74148]

    • Commentary in individual component reports
      Individual component commentary now appears in the individual component reports when activated by the checkbox Include Commentary in Component Reports located in Set Mode Options > Reporting > General > Report Options. [70286]

  • Deficiencies Summary

    • Deficiencies commentary
      Notes can now be added to the Deficiencies Summary. Notes are added by clicking the Commentary button in the Deficiencies dialog. [69058]

  • Nameplate

    • Nameplate centerline attachment method
      The centerline of the nameplate is now used as the point of attachment when entering the nameplate offset. Previously, the outer edge of the nameplate was used. [73143]

  • Nozzles

    • Warning deficiency clarification when pad thickness is greater than the projection available outside the vessel
      When the nozzle pad thickness, te, is greater than the projection available outside the vessel, Lpr, and Lpr is less than perpendicular limit of reinforcement, the warning deficiency reported now states "The pad thickness (te= value units) is greater than the projection available outside the vessel (Lpr = value units)". Previously, the warning deficiency stated, “Part of the pad thickness is beyond the limits of reinforcement.” [7526]

  • Quick Design

    • Hillside option for nozzles and couplings located on heads
      A hillside option is now available for nozzles and couplings placed on heads and dished covers using Quick Design. The option can be toggled during initial placement using the Tab key. [75408]

    • Support lugs positioning
      Support lugs can now be added on vertical vessels using Quick Design, setting the distance from datum and the angular position. Once the lugs are placed, the Support Lugs / Ring Girder Support dialog opens to enter the remaining information. [75361]

  • Saddles

    • Rating mode - base plate length for saddles with 2 ribs
      The base plate length, E, is now correctly displayed in the 3D view and in the Saddle Design Screen 2 dialog after being automatically increased while performing calculations for saddles with exactly 2 ribs which are tapered inward (e.g. when the base plate length is less than the distance between the ribs' two contact points with the vessel). When only 2 ribs are present, the base plate length is automatically increased during calculations to match the width of the ribs' contact points with the vessel because saddle calculations assume vertically oriented ribs. Previously, calculations in the saddle report would correctly reflect this increased length, but the 3D view and the Saddle Design Screen 2 dialog would not. [5790]

  • Seismic

    • NBC 2005-2015 exemption from seismic requirements
      An option switch permitting the consideration of NBC 2010-2015 sentence 4.1.8.18.(2) (4.1.8.17.(2) in NBC 2005) is now available in the Seismic Codes dialog for horizontal vessels and vessels calculated as equipment. When this option switch is active, the vessel will be exempted from seismic requirements only if both of the following conditions are met:
      1. Ie*Fa*Sa(0.2) is less than 0.35
      2. Importance Factor, Ie, is less than 1.5 (so that the vessel is not considered to be in the "post-disaster" importance category; see Table 4.1.2.1.)

  • Set Mode Options F7

    • Nozzle radiography defaults
      Default longitudinal and circumferential radiography settings for nozzles are now available in the Set Mode Options dialog on the Nozzles 2 page. This default applies to the nozzle attachment radiography settings as well. [73255]

Heat Exchanger


  • Tubesheets

    • Heat exchanger full reports
      The option switch Report heat exchanger maximum pressure calculations is now available in Set Mode Options > Reporting > General > Report Options. The tubesheet reports now include the design and maximum pressure conditions when the file is in either design mode or rating mode. Only the design conditions are reported when the option switch is not active. [62071]

    • Tubesheets with hubs
      Tubesheets with hubs are now available per Division 1 Figure UW-13.3 (a), (b), and (c) and Division 2 Table 4.2.7 Detail 1, 2, and 3. Tubesheet hub selections are available in the Tubesheet Connection Details dialog and are specified under the Corner Joint dropdown. Geometry checks in accordance with the ASME BPVC are performed in the Tubesheet Attachment Details at the bottom of the tubesheet component report. Hub calculations are performed per UG-27 and Parts 4.3 and 4.4 in Division 1 and Division 2, respectively. [51693]

    • Maximum bolt spacing
      The front tubesheet maximum bolt spacing per Appendix 2, equation (3), is now checked when the tubesheet is extended as a flange, and the custom mating flange has the option switch Enforce maximum bolt spacing and apply bolt spacing correction factor active. [63208]

    • TEMA Table D-5 bolt spacing
      A warning is now issued in the Deficiencies Summary if the front tubesheet bolt spacing does not provide sufficient wrench clearance between bolts. [75821]

  • Tube Bundle Removal

  • Inclusion of vertical loads in tube bundle weight
    A new option switch Include in Tube Bundle Removal Weight is now available in the Vertical Loads dialog for saddle-supported, horizontal heat exchangers with removable tube bundles. This option switch is only visible when the following two option switches are active:
    1. Present When Vessel is Empty (in the Vertical Loads dialog)
    2. Consider Tube Bundle Removal (in the Saddle Design Screen 2 dialog)
